White paper: how can we increase the biodegradability of plastic products?
To highlight the virtues of its CareTips solution, Lactips has published a simple, educational white paper that provides an overview of the life of plastics and how to improve their biodegradability.
“A mixture containing, as its fundamental component, a macromolecular substance and possessing, in general, the property of being moulded or shaped”. This is the (intriguing) definition that the Larousse gives of the word “plastic”. Lactips has just published a 64-page, richly illustrated white paper to give you a clearer understanding of the issues surrounding this highly topical subject.”
Diversity of plastics
To begin with, the White Paper takes a comprehensive look at the extremely varied world of plastics, whether petrosourced or biosourced from plant, animal, algae or micro-organism resources. The White Paper then focuses on biodegradability in compost, making a clear distinction between industrial composting and domestic composting, each of which has its own certification. At the end of this preamble, one direction is clear: “The use of plastics that are both biosourced and biodegradable is an effective way of generating a virtuous loop”.
The caretips solution
Based on this observation, the White Paper details the advantages of the solution proposed by Lactips: CareTips® 300 resin, made from milk casein, 100% biosourced and 100% biodegradable. This solution can be used pure or mixed with most biodegradable polymers to boost their biodegradation. Lactips points out that this is “a particularly effective solution for thick articles that do not meet the biodegradation and disintegration thresholds required for certification”. To illustrate its point, the White Paper sets out a number of concrete examples of use (100% biodegradable biowaste collection bags, reusable golf tees, etc.) and details the technical data for the CareTips® grades and the Blend range.
