ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS survey: the French and product packaging
In the run-up to its 2024 edition, ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS sought to establish a true ‘health report card’ for packaging in France through two exclusive surveys, the results of which were unveiled at the beginning of July. Today, the focus is on the survey ‘The French and product packaging’, conducted in partnership with OpinionWay.
’ The majority of French people pay attention to the packaging of the products they buy. However, when it comes to packaging, as with consumption in general, awareness in terms of aesthetics, functionality and environmental impact varies according to age,’ says ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS about the survey, which was carried out last April.
The French pay attention to packaging…
In detail, almost two thirds of French people (63%) pay attention to product packaging when making their purchases, with the main concerns being the practicality of the packaging (an important criterion for 70% of the consumers questioned) and environmental information (consulted by 55% of the consumers questioned). However, there are significant differences according to age. While 58% of the under-35s pay attention to visual appeal, only 41% of the over-60s do so.
‘ The vast majority of French people (87%) make the link between over-packaging and environmental protection, reflecting a growing awareness of sustainable practices,’ adds ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS, which also notes that ‘ 2/3 of French people have observed a significant improvement in packaging design in recent years ’.
…and waiting for change
Clearly establishing a link between packaging and environmental protection, the French are increasingly shocked by excessive packaging. ‘ 82% of them feel that they are too often confronted with excessive packaging in their day-to-day shopping, while 79% consider that most of the packaging on the products they buy is unnecessary and that it can mislead consumers as to the real quantity of the products,’ points out ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS. However, 67% of those surveyed noted an improvement in recent years (less packaging, with more environmentally-friendly materials) and 58% noted that more and more brands are offering reusable packaging.
