ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS survey: the vision of the community (suppliers/user industries)

In the run-up to the 2024 edition of ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS, two exclusive surveys were carried out to establish the state of packaging in France, the results of which were unveiled at the beginning of July. Today, we focus on the survey devoted to the vision of the ALL4PACK community.

The results of the survey on the vision of the ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS community presented by Hélène Tsoungui, Marketing & Communication Director of Comexposium (17′ to 22′).

Packaging suppliers and end-user industries: what does the packaging community think about current developments in the sector? To find out, ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS conducted a survey in May among 248 companies in its community (packaging manufacturers and distributors as well as user industries). The results of this survey were analysed at a press conference on 4 July.

More recyclable, lighter

The first finding, which should come as no surprise, is that the community is deeply concerned by the issue. “95% of those questioned believe that packaging is crucial,” observed ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS, whose survey measures the expectations of user industries and distributors in this area. Three key figures stand out:

  • 68% of user industries and distributors want packaging that is easy to recycle,
  • 50% express a preference for packaging that includes a proportion of recycled material,
  • 45% expect lighter packaging.

“In addition, 46% of those questioned expect functional innovations and greater practicality, while 38% want innovations to limit waste by providing better information on use-by dates ,” also notes ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS.

Plastics

Expectations in terms of change are particularly focused on the role of plastics. There are two key figures at both ends of the community:

  • 65% of manufacturers and distributors surveyed expect packaging manufacturers to offer an alternative to plastic,
  • 54% of manufacturers say that the use of plastic should be reduced over the next two years thanks to innovations and possible substitution with other materials.

On this last point, ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS notes that ” 60% think that the use of recycled or biosourced plastics will be ubiquitous, while 44% are tending towards fibre complexes containing ever less plastic “.

Obstacles to change

But there are still a few obstacles on the road to the new world. ” Despite their desire to reduce the use of plastic in their solutions and to adopt more responsible systems, user industries and packaging manufacturers are faced with 3 main obstacles ,” notes ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS. These three obstacles are listed in order of importance: the cost of the type of material (cited by 65% of respondents), the availability of the type of material (36%) and the amount of investment required (30%).
