Aegg: lights for 2025
Aegg Creative Packaging has just published a series of tips to help packaging players face the year 2025
Aegg Creative Packaging, a supplier of glass and plastic packaging solutions and exhibitor at ALLFORPACK EMBALLAGE PARIS, has just published on its website a series of forecasts for the packaging sector in 2025. Four proposals in particular stand out from this look to the future, which is strongly influenced by current geopolitical uncertainties.
Anticipating the ‘Trump effect’
The increase in customs tariffs, at the heart of Donald Trump’s election campaign, is expected to influence maritime transport activities, with a risk of a rush to import goods from certain countries before tariffs are increased. ‘We could also see geographical changes in sourcing, as there is a lot of talk about moving goods from China to Turkey or other countries. This could lead to possible disruptions due to changes in supply sources,’ Aegg also predicts.
Maritime shipping: cover your back
‘As maritime transport remains a difficult area to predict, make sure you are covered on your key routes, as we could see sudden movements depending on macroeconomic changes,’ warns Aegg, which refers in particular to the possibility of an increase in customs tariffs in the United States, but also the reduction of Chinese exports or the threat of a recession in the EU.
Glass: beware of supply
‘Expect more closures because the old furnaces are not being replaced due to a lack of demand. The underlying costs will not allow glass manufacturers to continue offering discounts, so even if temporary discounts can be granted by some suppliers, it will not be tenable in the long term,’ warns Aegg, who also advises, in a context of high interest rates, to “beware of heavily indebted glass factories that sell cheap glass”.
The reduction of packaging continues
If only to avoid new taxes, companies will continue to focus on reducing (or eliminating) packaging in 2025, while working on making it lighter and more recyclable. ‘Companies will aim to eliminate all unnecessary product packaging where it does not affect quality or food waste. For example, companies can eliminate labels in favour of pre-printed packaging,’ Aegg predicts.
