B&R is expanding its Codian range with Codian SR robots. The promise: easy and compact installation in confined spaces thanks to SCARA kinematics

SCARA robots have been available for several years and are growing in popularity thanks to their ability to reach and handle objects in a limited work area thanks to their horizontal arms that can move in multiple directions. Exhibiting at ALLFORPACK EMBALLAGE PARIS, B&R is responding to this new demand with the launch of Codian SR robots, which complement its Codian range of open robot mechanics.

The new series offers high-speed articulated movement with four degrees of freedom, ideal for tasks that require speed and repeatability in a compact footprint (pick-and-place, loading, unloading, assembly, distribution, etc.). These new robots are particularly suitable for small spaces, with a payload capacity ranging from 3 to 65 kilograms. ‘The Codian SR series includes models qualified for clean rooms that enable compact, high-performance handling with undisturbed airflow in sensitive environments such as semiconductor or pharmaceutical production,’ emphasises B&R, adding that these new robots are available either as open robot mechanics or with B&R controls and software as a Machine-Centric Robotics (MCR) solution.

Integrated into B&R’s open software platform (mapp Robotics), these new tools are designed to be deployed without specialised knowledge of robot programming. “With mapp Robotics and our integrated approach, machine builders can implement robotics applications without the need for robotics expertise. The aim is to allow engineers to focus on machine performance and product quality, rather than filling technical gaps between systems,” explains Sebastian Brandstetter, Product Manager for Robotics at B&R.
