Factor 101: the ultra-light bottle from KHS
With Factor 101, KHS has designed one of the world’s lightest PET bottles for still beverages
5.89 grams of material to hold 591 millilitres of product: these are the impressive figures achieved by KHS and Factor 101, its new bottle designed in collaboration with Canadian injection moulding equipment and services supplier Husky Technologies.
‘To increase stability, the shoulder design of the Factor 101 has been modified and the bottle body has been reinforced with functional straps,’ explains KHS, presenting the manufacture of this bottle capable of withstanding 220 newtons, above the current industry upper load threshold (200 newtons). The preform design benefited from collaboration with Husky Technologies, the world’s leading supplier of PET preform injection moulding systems and services.

‘Compared to the standard lightweight PET container containing 500 millilitres of still water and usually weighing seven grams on the US market, the joint KHS/Husky product requires 30% less material,’ says KHS, adding that its new bottle can also be made entirely from rPET.
All technical data on the design of this new bottle is available on the dedicated page on the KHS website.
