Citeo has just announced the company chosen to launch a fourth sorting centre, which will enable it to reach the milestone of 100,000 tonnes of plastic packaging processed per year

After Beaune (Bourgogne Recyclage), Epinal (Suez) and Mende (Environnement Massif Central), the fourth packaging sorting centre initiated by the mission-driven company Citeo will be located in Thiverval-Grignon (Yvelines). Citeo has just selected Sepur as the winner of its call for expressions of interest (AMI).

With a processing capacity of 30,000 tonnes of household plastic packaging, this new sorting centre should enable 100,000 tonnes of packaging to be processed per year by the end of 2026.

Over 95% purity

‘These sorting centres mark a major step forward for the recycling of household plastic packaging in France and will enable us to respond to the expected increase in the volume of rigid waste generated by the simplification of the sorting process and the modernisation of local authority sorting centres,’ explains Citeo, pointing out that these centres are designed to process household packaging after an initial pass through conventional sorting centres and emphasising that this process achieves a sorting purity level of 95 to 98%, thereby improving recycling efficiency and facilitating the transformation of plastics into new products.

The Thiverval-Grignon sorting centre will coexist with several SEPUR activities, such as the company’s head office, a co-composting centre, a waste sorting centre for commercial activities and a selective collection sorting centre.

Construction work is due to start this autumn, with operations scheduled to begin at the end of 2026.
