Digital printing for packaging: strong growth ahead
According to the latest report published by Smithers, the digital printing market for packaging and labelling is expected to grow by more than 10% annually between now and 2030
From € 18,73 billion in 2025 to € 31,42 billion in 2030: this is how the global market for digital packaging and labelling will evolve according to the latest report published by the American consulting firm Smithers. The report covers the manufacture of digitally printed labels and packaging (corrugated, cardboard, flexible packaging, rigid plastics and metal), using either electrophotography or inkjet technology.
By 2030, digital packaging/labelling is expected to account for 5.8% of the total printed packaging market, compared with 4.1% in 2025.
Digital printing: Expanded applications
‘Digital printing is growing much faster than the dominant analogue printing methods,’ observes Smithers, which also notes a significant expansion in the scope of digital applications beyond labelling, where it is already in high demand. ‘The scalability and versatility of inkjet printing are making digital increasingly attractive for large-format presses used to print cardboard, corrugated cardboard and flexible products,’ concludes Smithers.
As in 2024, the transformation of the printing market will be one of the central themes of the series of conferences and workshops at the ALLFORPACK EMBALLAGES PARIS trade show, the next edition of which will take place from 24 to 26 November 2026 at Paris Nord-Villepinte.
