Amcor/Berry merger: the birth of a packaging giant
With a turnover of nearly $23 billion, the group created by this merger becomes the world’s third largest packaging company.
Exhibitor at ALLFORPACK EMBALLAGE PARIS, Berry Global confirmed in a press release its merger with Amcor, the Australian packaging giant headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland.
The announcement had been expected since the US and European competition authorities gave the green light without any particular restrictions in March and April.
‘Through this combination, Amcor strengthens its position as a global leader in packaging solutions for consumer and healthcare products, with the unique material science and innovation capabilities needed to revolutionise product development and meet the sustainability aspirations of customers and consumers,’ reads the press release accompanying the announcement, which estimates the value of the synergies already identified between the two groups at $650 million.
70,000 employees
The merger creates a company with annual sales of approximately $23 billion, a presence in nearly 140 countries, nearly 400 production sites and 70,000 employees. It marks a new stage in the consolidation of the packaging sector following the mergers of Smurfit Kappa/WestRock and International Paper/DS Smith, which were finalised in July 2024 and January 2025. In terms of turnover, only these two groups now outrank the new giant created by the Amcor/Berry merger.
