What’s new for the 36th edition of ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS?
With just two months to go before the opening of ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS, the show’s director Chantal de Lamotte looks back at the major new features for this year’s event. Innovation and circularity in particular will be the key themes of these 4 days of exchange and sharing between players in the packaging and intralogistics sector.
In your opinion, what are the current challenges facing the packaging sector in Europe?
Chantal de Lamotte: Recently, most concerns have centred on the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) bill, which sets ambitious targets for combating packaging pollution (recyclability of packaging, targets for reuse, collection of packaging, etc.). On this subject, although there are still some concerns, we can see that the industry is well on the way to meeting and even exceeding the targets set by the European framework.
Finally, there is a real need for coordination between the various packaging players at all levels (international, national and local) so that they can all move forward together to meet the new environmental challenges.
What sectors do the exhibitors at ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS represent?
Chantal de Lamotte: ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS 2024 will host a wide range of exhibitors covering the entire packaging and intralogistics value chain. The sectors represented by our exhibitors include four main areas:
- Packaging: companies offering innovative, sustainable and recyclable materials and packaging, as well as packaging, filling, forming and sealing machinery,
- Processing: suppliers of technologies for automating production processes and solutions linked to the circular economy, such as recycling and reuse,
- Printing: specialists in traceability, coding and marking systems, as well as printing technologies for packaging,
- Logistics: suppliers of intralogistics solutions, warehouse management, robotics and automation, as well as advanced technologies for optimising the supply chain.
These sectors, which are constantly evolving, currently account for the majority of innovations in the packaging industry. ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS is an essential showcase for discovering these advances and forging strategic partnerships.
Is ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS an international show? What percentage of exhibitors are from abroad?
Chantal de Lamotte: ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS is a trade show for all types of packaging and has always been committed to bringing together all the players in the packaging industry. So it’s only natural that the event should go international with each edition. The 2024 edition will be no exception to the rule, as we expect to welcome nearly 1,000 exhibitors, 50% of whom will be international exhibitors and brands from more than 80 countries. Neighbouring European countries are of course strongly represented, but for several years now we’ve been seeing strong interest from countries further afield, such as Turkey and China. This can be explained by two factors:
- The positioning of the show, which has always sought to highlight innovative services and products, but also to position itself as closely as possible to the challenges faced by companies using packaging.
- The in-depth work carried out alongside national institutions (Conseil National de l’Emballage, Istituto di Imballaggio, etc.) and international bodies such as the European Brand & Design Packaging Association (EPDA) and the World Packaging Organisation (WPO), which structure the packaging industry worldwide.
ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS has a clear focus on sustainability. How is this reflected in this edition?
Chantal de Lamotte: More than sustainability, we want to be part of a circular approach. This notion of circularity is essential today if we want to have a lasting impact on the entire value chain of the industry, both upstream and downstream. That’s why, in 2024, we’re launching a new zone entirely dedicated to circularity. It will bring together innovative companies and start-ups with 3R offerings, working to :
- Reducing packaging and the resources used in its manufacture,
- Recyclability, including the incorporation of recycled materials,
- Reuse of existing packaging, in particular through bulk or deposit systems.
What is the conference programme for this year’s event?
Chantal de Lamotte: As usual, the ALL4PACK CONFERENCES area will play a key role over the 4 days of the show. This year’s programme, co-constructed with our Pack Expert Committee, promises to be particularly interesting and dense. From 4 to 7 November, 27 conferences will be held on subjects that have a daily impact on packaging professionals: data & AI, innovative materials, eco-design, 3R strategy, legislative and regulatory framework, etc. Visitors who wish to take a closer look at these topics can also take part in one of the many workshops organised by the show’s exhibitors in the ALL4PACK CIRCULARITY area.
You have adopted ‘INNOVATION NEVER STOPS’ as the baseline for this year’s show. What role will innovation play at ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS 2024?
Chantal de Lamotte: As I said earlier, innovation is one of the major keys to enabling packaging companies to complete their ecological transition processes. And the role of an exhibition like ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS is precisely to highlight these innovations so that they can inspire and be used by as many people as possible. With this in mind, we are once again running the ALL4PACK INNOVATIONS area this year. Designed in collaboration with theEPDA, this area of the show will feature the winners of major innovation competitions (SIAL Innovation, Emballé 5.0, De Gouden Noot, Oscar de l’Emballage, etc.). It will also be an opportunity to meet the winning projects in one of the 5 categories (reduction, recycling, reuse, functionality & usage, industrial efficiency) of the ALL4PACK INNOVATIONS Awards.
