Webinar #1 – Single and multiple use packaging: two complementary solutions

ON THURSDAY 13 APRIL FROM 10 TO 11 AM, THE FIRST ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS WEBINAR WILL TAKE PLACE, FOLLOWING THE NOVEMBER 2022 EDITION.

A webinar that will be led by four experts on the issue of packaging: accompanied the cpackaging expert, Fabrice Peltier, Guillaume Schaeffer will welcome Jérôme Lerouge, head of packaging development at NIVEA, as well as Benoît Tausky, head of Packaging Europe at ECOTONE.

The theme of this first exchange between experts will be “Single-use and multiple-use packaging: two complementary solutions that should not be opposed“. This will be an opportunity for them to discuss this extremely important topic, at a time when the world of packaging and logistics professionals is supposed to be speaking with one voice against the use of single-use packaging, with the backing of both national and European legislation.

AN INVENTORY TO BE DRAWN UP

A debate, of course, but also a highlighting of the economic and factual realities that still make single-use packaging indispensable for certain sectors.

The question is no longer whether or not to embark on reuse, but rather how to go about it, and where to start.

Our experts will talk about the challenges faced by marketers, as well as the various responses to this need for packaging that must now be both competitive and sustainable, and finally how to tackle the issue of reuse without having to completely call into question its industrial tool.

REUSE IS NOW A MAJOR FOCUS OF THE PACKAGING REVOLUTION

In the conclusion of the first period of the Packaging Revolution, it is written: “Reuse and re-employment are knocking at the door of this revolution to stop systematic single use in sectors where it is not always justified…”.
The door is now wide open and marketers will have to go through it quickly given the ambitious targets of the new European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

The reuse and reutilisation of packaging is based on three main principles:

  • The primary packaging is refilled by the consumer with a specially designed refill;
  • The primary packaging is returned to the shop by the consumer, sometimes via an automatic machine that returns a deposit. The primary packaging is returned to the store by the consumer, sometimes via an automatic machine that pays a deposit. It is washed, checked and sent back to the manufacturer/marketer for refilling;
  • The packaging sold empty or with a deposit is used by the consumer to use products sold in bulk.

Today’s reusable and refillable packaging solutions do not yet meet all the requirements, both from a regulatory point of view and in terms of functionality. However, a few pioneers have already made a commitment. They are experimenting with different solutions. These have consequences both industrially and commercially and are ultimately subject to the implacable verdict of consumers.

What are the first lessons learned in terms of refillable packaging and refills, in terms of reusing reusable packaging in industrial conditions and selling in bulk in adapted containers?
This webinar will provide an initial update.
