Sidel is extending its StarLITE-R range for flat products, with a new bottom for lightweight 100% rPET bottles

Reducing production costs by making bottles lighter and reducing blowing pressures while using materials compatible with the company’s CSR objectives: it’s the dream of all food and beverage producers.

It is to meet all these needs that Sidel, an exhibitor at the ALLFORPACK EMBALLAGE PARIS trade fair, is launching its StarLITE-R range for flat products, thus staying one step ahead of the competition. ‘Today, the market offers bottle bases suitable for lightweight designs and high production rates, but they are designed for virgin PET bottles. Sidel’s StarLITE-R for flat products is the only solution on the market that is specially designed for recycled PET and achieves the high performance required in this competitive market,’ says Mikael Derrien, Manager Packaging Innovations at Sidel, who also adds that this new solution requires only a low blowing pressure, thus improving its “sustainable” profile.

Ready for high speeds

‘The STARLITE-R bottle base for flat products is equipped with Sidel’s patented technology that allows the material to be easily stretched and precisely distributed, optimises ventilation to facilitate shaping, and guarantees the efficiency of the base cooling circuit, which is ideal for rPET that can be processed at higher temperatures’ explains Sidel, which also highlights a design that guarantees the absence of deformation or breakage of the bottom or the rounded edges of the mould bottom that facilitate shaping during blowing, increasing the resistance of the bottle bottom to defects. Effective cooling also helps to maintain the performance of the bottle base even at high production rates (up to 2,700 bottles per hour per machine for single-use formats, and up to 2,400 bottles per hour per machine for multiple-use formats).

‘By switching from virgin PET to 100% rPET thanks to the StarLITE-R base for flat products, producers can benefit from a reduction of 2,400 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year,’ concludes Sidel.

StarLITE-R Still for flat products completes Sidel’s new rPET range, which consists of StarLITE-R for carbonated drinks, StarLITE-R Nitro and StarLITE-R Premium.
