OPTIMA: an EcoVadis platinum medal
Just a few days before the opening of the ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS trade fair, the Optima Group has announced a new distinction in the field of sustainable development
The EcoVadis sustainability assessment platform has just awarded Optima the platinum medal, reserved for the top 1% of companies in the sector in question. ‘ Optima is one of only eight companies in Germany’s mechanical and plant engineering sector to be awarded the platinum medal in 2024,’ notes the group in a press release.
Strategy gains momentum
This award is a direct consequence of the roll-out of the ‘We care for tomorrow’ sustainability strategy, published in 2022. ‘ Firstly, recyclable packaging solutions are increasingly being developed in collaboration with customers. As a second pillar, various machines have been technically improved in terms of energy consumption and media. Extensive energy-saving measures, investments in energy-efficient buildings, the use of green electricity and the installation of solar collectors are additional elements,’ notes Optima, which also points out that other measures have been implemented in the last 12 months. ‘ An important step was the certification of the IT security management system to ISO 27001. In addition, a detailed analysis of the significance of all the main sustainability issues was carried out and the carbon footprint was extended. Optima has joined the United Nations Global Compact to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable change. The Code of Conduct – the guidelines to ensure that all employees and partners comply with legal obligations – has also contributed to the award,’ notes Optima.
The next steps planned by the group on this theme are the creation of a comprehensive sustainability report and the increased involvement of suppliers in social and environmental issues.
